A Stitch in Time: A Community Paper Quilt

Join us for the final Seeding Joy workshop of the season as we create a collaborative paper quilt inspired by African American quilting traditions and the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Together, we will explore how art can preserve memory, honor ancestors, celebrate community, and imagine a more just and joyful future.

Drawing inspiration from quilts in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's collection, participants will create individual collage-based quilt squares using images, patterns, text, and personal reflections. Through a brief writing exercise, participants will generate words and phrases that can be incorporated into their designs, transforming individual stories into a shared work of art.

As each square is connected to the others, a larger community quilt will emerge—a collective portrait of remembrance, resilience, joy, and hope. No artistic experience is necessary. All materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring photocopies of family members and/or ancestors

RSVP is required for free museum admission and parking, please register here.
