Friends of Writers Room Monthly meeting
Come to craft and connect!
Writers Room - 229 N. 34th St, 3rd Floor
Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
This month, we will be meeting to do some creative writing, doodling, and general crafts on paper plates! On these plates we’ll be writing, or drawing (maybe both?) things we are grateful for, things we’d like to offer to the world, and things we’d like more of!
November is a month of gratitude, seasonal change, and time to get cozy. Bring that grateful and community energy to this space—and come by to craft and chat!
Interested in being a part of Writers Room? This is the space to learn more about our wide array of community-building and story-sharing opportunities. Over snacks and refreshments, we'll share what's coming up at Writers Room and ways to be involved! From writing workshops, guided tours of cultural institutions, drag shows, photography, and more - there's something for everyone who wants to be a part of an authentic and empathetic community.
Invent your Miracle Product
Invent your own “miracle product” and/or service!
In this workshop facilitated by the organizers of the Holistic Quantum Art Expo, we’ll explore common tactics often used in health and wellness marketing to grift, like pseudoscientific jargon. Together, we’ll build a bank of phrases that resemble real wellness grift claims and use them to advertise and market your miracle wellness product!
Workshop participants can submit their product to be showcased in the Holistic Quantum Art Expo, a parody show of bizarre and bogus wellness tech claims, at the Rotunda (4014 Walnut St), on Friday, November 14th.
Please RSVP to this workshop here!

Health Mis/Disinformation Workshop
Learn about, share, and discuss experiences with the health and wellness mis/disinformation landscape with the organizers of the Holistic Quantum Activation Art Expo!
This satirical project emerged from a serious issue: public trust in healthcare has been eroded – or never existed for some communities. This workshop will help us identify ideological through lines in the healthcare disinformation ecosystem, to be more critical and informed citizens.
Through reading, discussion, and writing, this workshop will give participants space to learn more about the phenomenon of healthcare misinformation, process personal experiences, and learn ways we can help our loved ones be informed consumers of health and wellness media.
Please RSVP to this workshop here!

Open Mic: On the Right Track
Join us on Tuesday, October 28, in Ross Commons (229 N 34th Street), 3rd floor, from 5:30 PM -7:00 PM
For the opening of our new open mic series, On the Right Track!
Expect a lively evening of poetry reading. With ample room to enjoy others’ work, and opportunity to share your own—Whether it’s your first or tenth open mic, we welcome you to come cultivate community, experience imagination, and inspire one another, at On the Right Track.
Our Conductor of the evening will be the fabulous Andrea “Philly” Walls, Founder and Creative Director of the Museum of Black Joy. Andrea will set the tone for an evening of colorful self-expression and sharing, with the power of collaborative creativity, in our shared space. Andrea is a weaver of stories, threading memory and imagination into living history. As a writer, photographer, artist, and archivist, she moves with care, illuminating the pulse of Black life so it lingers in sight and spirit.
Ross Commons, where the Writers Room resides in Powelton Village, was once owned by the comptroller of the Pennsylvania Railroad before being acquired by Drexel in 1928. In the early 2000s, it was reborn as the George and Lyn Ross Commons: a new community space for students. From a symbol of power and industry to a community hub of creation and collaboration. Ross Commons’ history— in relation to railroads and community collaboration inspired the name of the series, On the Right Track, to symbolize the directions we chart forward, together.
We hope you’ll join us for this fun evening. Don’t forget to bring something to read, and/or ears to listen. Come enjoy some open mic and connection with the Writers Room community!
