Housing Journeys III: Drawing Our Way Home
Housing Journeys III: Drawing Our Way Home
Can dream Homes live in reality? How do architects turn dreams into buildings we can touch, love, and live in? How can you ensure that your dreams of housing are translated into life completely, not fractionally?
If you have ever asked yourself these questions or thought deeply about what you might do if you had the power to change your built environment, you will find yourself in like-minded community at Housing Journeys III. At this third and final session in the series, third-year architecture student, Jackson Tignor, will lead us through a drawing activity where we will consider home as a set of layers. Layers of people, feelings, memories, and building that come together to create a Home.
Come here to cherish Home in community and explore how we translate our dreams into drawings that tell stories.
This session invites you to reminisce, to map memory, and to sit in community as we expand our understanding of how large Home can be. Join us for the second Creative Kickback in the Housing Journeys series—a space to reflect, create, and live together, if only for a little while.

Confront it, Let it out, Beat it!
Visualizing, intellectualizing, defining, naming, speaking, and noticing. Techniques we use, to varying degrees, as lenses to interact with the world every day. In this community art-making and writing workshop, we will create visual art or write poetry to describe a quality, topic, or problem we have been frustrated with or despise.
In response to these subjects, we will write confrontations and testimonies how they make us feel. We will also write affirmations towards ourselves as reminders of our own skills and potential to overcome these villainous subjects. Come for a chance to beat the daylights out of these troubles as well—yes, physically beat! This is an opportunity to embolden oneself to express discontent, as a tool to understand problems, to speak with what may often be tucked away and tolerated.
Light snacks will be provided.
Interested in being a part of Writers Room? This is the space to learn more about our wide array of community-building and story-sharing opportunities. Over snacks and refreshments, we'll share what's coming up at Writers Room and ways to be involved! From writing workshops, guided tours of cultural institutions, drag shows, photography, and more - there's something for everyone who wants to be a part of an authentic and empathetic community.

Housing Journeys II: You and I, Living, Together
Housing Journeys II: You and I, Living, Together
Do property lines decide who we live with—or merely who we live next to?
Does Home begin and end at an imaginary line drawn at the edge of a driveway, a party wall, a fence? Or is Home something wider, messier, more human?
What if Home was less about ownership and more about closeness—about who knocks on your door, who you check in on, who fills the space with memory, laughter, tension, care? Could Home be mapped not with streets and parcels, but in relationships, shared time, and proximity?
At this Creative Kickback session, we will gently question the boundaries that shape how we live together. Architecture student and Second Story Collective Homesharer, Jackson Tignor, will guide participants through a reflective workshop that blends art, writing, and conversation. Together, we will probe the question: how do manufactured divisions—property lines, party walls, blocks—support and diminish our sense of Home?
We will take these ideas about home and living together and imagine them in the context of Philadelphia blocks and streets. Using blank maps, we will write, draw, and color to better consider how closeness—physical and emotional—forms quiet constellations of care and experience.
This session invites you to reminisce, to map memory, and to sit in community as we expand our understanding of how large Home can be. Join us for the second Creative Kickback in the Housing Journeys series—a space to reflect, create, and live together, if only for a little while.

After reflecting, decorate the cover of a small field journal to take with you for all of your writing or scribbling needs!
Using the holistic wellness framework, which organizes whole-person wellness into the cooperation of eight separate facets (emotional/mental, physical, social, etc.), we will explore our successes in maintaining joy recently, as well as individually check in on how we’re doing in the realms of wellness.
Light snacks will be provided.
