Seeding Joy: Sonnets for the everyday sacred

  • Philadelphia Museum of Art 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy Philadelphia, PA 19130 Philadelphia, PA (map)

Join us for February’s Seeding Joy workshop led by Andrea Walls, Founder and Creative Director of the Museum of Black Joy, in collaboration with Writers Room and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

This month’s workshop is titled Holding Space: Sonnets for the Everyday Sacred. You’ll be invited to experience joy not as performance or reward, but as a practice of attention, care, and presence. Inspired by the paintings of Noah Davis, the program centers Black interior life—quiet moments, imagined spaces, and everyday scenes where dignity, rest, and belonging are possible.

Instead of analyzing or explaining Davis’s artwork, we will witness it, reflect on our own lived experiences, and create responses that honor the everyday sacred. We will respond to a series of 14 essential questions, using the sonnet (a little sound or song) as our container.

RSVP is required for free museum admission and parking - please register here.

The workshop is in the Learning & Engagement Center at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Please use the North Entrance for your convenience.

Contact Writers Room at writersroom@drexel.edu with any questions.
