Mother May Eye is an intimate, sensory-centered workshop exploring care, tenderness, ancestral memory, and self-regard through the gaze of Henry Ossawa Tanner’s portrait of his mother. Participants gather in reflection around the painting as both witness and mirror — considering what it means to be seen with gentleness, to inherit care, and to mother ourselves and one another through difficult times.
Using fresh herbs, participants will create personalized tea potions/blends inspired by emotional states, memories, prayers, and desires for restoration. Alongside the tea-making ritual, participants will write “notes to mother our spirits” — affirmations, letters, blessings, or reminders intended to nourish the self and community.
