ABC’s of Afro-Asian Solidarity

  • Ross Commons 229 North 34th Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104 United States (map)

Writers Room’s UnMapping Project invites you to this special workshop and book event with visiting scholars Chi-ming Yang and Sterling Johnson, and UnMapping Co-Instructors Carol McCullough and Lauren Lowe. Yang and Johnson will open with a conversation about H is for Horse, Yang’s newly released publication on Octavia Butler’s childhood, her fascination with horses, and environmental racism. Their conversation will focus on the process of solidarity work, the ethical framework required to tell the stories of others, and the connection between Yang’s scholarship and Afro-Asian solidarity.

Carol McCullough and Lauren Lowe will then lead participants in a writing and reflection exercise to help us connect with our own stories and meet others in solidarity. We’ll close with reflections and invitations to participate in solidarity work in Philadelphia.

Refreshments provided, please RSVP here! Copies of H is for Horse will be given away to the first twenty attendees.
